COVID 19 impact on operations and reopening

After going through multiple rounds of assessment with our Delhi team and also by engaging our HQ in Singapore, Climb Central Delhi - Delhi’s most loved indoor rock climbing facility - opened it’s doors in mid-September.

COVID-19 pandemic has taken the whole world by surprise and many businesses have struggled. Many studies were done across Europe and North America where climbing gyms continued to remain in operation with strict hygiene protocol and studies substantiated the belief that climbing in large open spaces of a climbing gym make it a low risk area for transmission risk.

It is not practical to be able to clean every hold after every climb. Imagine that when taking public transport, is it possible to clean the handrail every time a passenger touches it? No, right! So climbing gyms aren’t very different. What it really boils down to is that each climber needs to take precautions and follow the strict protocol of the gym to minimize the transmission risk.

These protocols include various precautions including:

  • Declaration of health upon check-in

  • Providing current contact information to facilitate contact tracing

  • Sanitizing frequently during climbs

  • Minimizing the partners who you climb with

  • Remaining in the climbing gym for a reduced duration

  • Mask On, Climb On

We were extremely cautious when we re-opened Climb Central Delhi and followed protocol that was more stringent than many of the gyms worldwide and have taken a very cautious and conservative approach towards risk assessment. If the SOPs allowed 50 guests at any given time, we went with a lower number.

At the same time, we created sessions with extended time limits to avoid having customers feel that they weren’t getting their money’s worth. We also opened early to allow work from home crowd to climb early and get on with the rest of their day during the weekdays. This reduced the typical evening rush we experienced pre-covid.

We are overwhelmed by the community support we received after reopening and customers have complemented us for our preparedness and our protocol.

We have a lot of ground to cover as being a new facility, our finances are severely strained. We have extended all multi-passes and memberships after our reopening for no additional charge. If you purchase some Climb Central Delhi merchandize during your next visit, it will be much appreciated!

We look forward to seeing you soon.
